Zenit becomes Russian Premier League champion several rounds ahead of schedule

Zenit St. Petersburg were crowned Russian Premier League champions with two matchdays to be played. Victory over FC Lokmotiv Moscow (in a duel between friends of MFC) earned them the title on matchday 28 of 30.

They are followed in the standings by three friends of FI and MFC, Spartak Moscow, FC Lokomotiv Moscow and Rubin Kazan. With this results, Spartak would fight for a place in the Champions League, while Lokomotiv and Kazan would go to the Europa League.

But there is still a game to play and both Sochi and CSKA will be hoping to climb a few places to improve on their season’s record.

Dinamo Moscow, FC Rostov and Krasnodar have not performed their best season and are in mid-table. They will be looking to improve their results next season.
